Safety 2023 Emphasizes Career Development
The Career Development Center on the event’s show floor helps safety professionals advance their careers in a number of ways.
The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has concentrated on providing career development services to its members and specifically at this week’s Safety 2023 in San Antonio, Texas, it is doing so by providing a Career Development Center.
Found on the exhibit floor at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center during the June 5-7 event, the center offers a variety of services including presentations on professional growth, a photo studio for professional head shots, and booths from companies displaying a number of offerings. The offering includes job postings, resume services, recruiting services, and information about charting a career path.
One of the ones that really hit was the photo booth, says Christine Sullivan, CSP, ARM, president of ASSP.
“We offer people the opportunity to get a professional headshot that they can post on their LinkedIn page,” he explains. “Some of those members would never have had that opportunity without paying a photographer. So we try to do that for them and help them take their career game to the next level.
Sullivan added the Career Development Center is part of ASSP’s continued emphasis on helping young safety professionals.
“Bringing young professionals into organizations and into businesses is very important,” he explains. “So, we have an Emerging Professionals Group which is one of our common interest groups. And that group is really aimed at those who are emerging as professionals and helping them grow in their careers.”
