In a recent interview with Alex McCarthy for Daily Mail Online, Seth Rollins opened up about his involvement in the upcoming Marvel Studios production, Captain America: A Brave New Worldhis thoughts on his future in Hollywood, and his long-term plans in wrestling.
Regarding his role in Captain America: A Brave New World, Rollins expressed joy at taking chances outside of WWE and mentioned that he likes to take risks in his career. He emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the unique opportunities that may arise. Rollins said,
“I’m sworn to a certain level of secrecy, so I can’t divulge too much information about it. What I’m going to say in answer to your question is it’s cool, it’s cool to get the opportunity to do something outside of your comfort zone. This is what I love, WWE, pro wrestling, it’s all I want to do and all I want to do as a career for as long as I can but whenever you get to a certain level in this industry there’s going to be opportunities that come your way and I like taking a risk at this point in my career. I mean, you can tell by the fashion sensibilities I’ve become acquainted with over the last few years, that I love to take risks! So if you get the chance to do something amazing outside of WWE, you have to look at it, try and make it work as best you can because you only get one life and one shot, and you never know when. You might get an opportunity like that – so you have to make it happen.”
When asked about his future in Hollywood, Rollins admits that he will always be connected to the wrestling industry in some capacity. He referred to the examples of The Rock and John Cena and how his return to WWE brought more attention and exposure, even though it meant taking chances from other people. Rollins recognized the bigger picture and the potential positive impact the appearance of such a crossover could have on the industry. He says,
“As I sit here right now in wrestling school watching people fall behind me, I feel like I will always be a part of the industry in some form. You’re looking at The Rock as an example here, and he’s a different beast, right? What you see from John at the time, he was at the peak of his popularity in WWE at the time and saw The Rock return every year. So, not only did The Rock leave because of a hiccup, he went away for a year and then came back and took a chance on other people who had been there and grind and stuff. What John failed to see was the bigger picture and how many more eyes The Rock would bring to WWE, to WrestleMania, and talent as a whole. John skipped that part, and he’ll tell you now that he’s a little short-sighted in that regard. And you see when John Cena came back to WrestleMania this year, it wasn’t to be a marquee, it wasn’t to be part of the show and contribute in any way he could.
While Rollins sees wrestling as his future for the foreseeable future, he admits that there will come a time when he will have to explore other options outside of the ring. However, he believes that day will not come anytime soon as he feels he is currently at the peak of his career. He says,
“For me, I don’t know where my future lies. I feel, like I said, right now wrestling is my future as long as I can do it at a high level. But there will come a day when a fall will turn my bones to dust and I will have to start looking elsewhere and see what other options there are. I don’t think it’s coming anytime soon and I’m just at the peak of my career right now and there are many years ahead of me.
On tonight’s episode of WWE NXT Gold Rush (Night One), Rollins will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Bron Breakker. Captain America: A Brave New Worldpreviously titled New World Order, will be released on July 26, 2024.
